That New-New in Washington D.C : Sakerum Sushi Bar Opens on U ST. Today
Sakerum is an ultra trendy, two-story, rooftop, sushi bar + cocktail lounge.
Located just a few steps away from the intersection of 14th and U Street (aka the most bustling neighborhood in Washington D.C ) this area = ideal for a sushi restaurant like this.
Lost or directionally challenged? Look out for a place with a really cool front door.
Why We're Really Excited About This Opening
Sushi restaurants in D.C. are rarely the full package. The great places are whole-in-the-walls, in Northern Virginia, or extremely overpriced (don't ya hate when you're still hungry even after your server brings you your $200+ check?) Now if you're screaming, "What about SEI!" at your computer after reading this well then, what..ABOUT.. SEI? As much as we want to say we love Sei, it's unfortunately never been a sushi spot worth talking about.
*womp womp womp*
The restaurant will serve Latin-inspired Asian plates with innovative sushi and sashimi dishes. The menu will aim to deliver diners a more unique and creative “izakaya” experience than the average.
Editors Note: My team and I got to sample a few things at the opening party. As a somewhat 'serious sushi person' who usually orders sashimi, holy sssshhh*tttt...even their basic California Roll (often ordered by rookie sushi eaters) was melt-in-your-mouth good!
The 3,600-square-foot resto-lounge will have a bar on both the first and second floor in addition to a private dining area and a 90-person retractable rooftop upstairs that'll stay open all year. The cocktail menu features an array of creative concoctions + various types of sake, wine, and beer as well.
If SEVCITIES had a 'Most #ChicAF Restaurant' award, Sakerum would 100% be in the running. These guys get an A++ for atmosphere. When we asked co-owner Hisham Jalil how they came up with the look of the restaurant, he was quick to give credit where credit was due, "We had Swatchroom work on the interior design for us." Ah, smart move! The creative connoisseurs at Swatchroom (the same group behind the super-sexy SAX & colorful/cool Lincoln ) definitely know how to nail the look, that makes ya look twice. The only semi-complaint about the place? We wish the rooftop was just a taaad bit bigger....cause' we dig it that much.
& Last But Not Least..
