It's Never Too Late To Pursue Your Passions - 4 People That'll Inspire You To Go After Your Dream Job
1. RUTH FLOWERS (82) - DJ
Aside from once being referred to as, "The hippest Deejane in circulation" by Vanity Fair magazine, Ruth Flowers aka "Mamy Rock" went on her own European tour, was a resident DJ at the Karl Lagerfeld Chanel Party at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival, and performed for stars like Johnny Depp, Madonna, Lenny Kravitz, & Mariah Carey.
What Pushed Her To DJ at 80? "Everything began the night, when my grandson, whom I'm very close to, celebrated his birthday at a disco in London. He invited me to join him and his friends. When I arrived the doormen wouldn't allow me inside. Its true, I didn't look like their usual customer! I did get in eventually only to be dumbfounded there was such an electric atmosphere! It was so different from the dances & the bands I used to go to when I was younger. There was a real osmosis between the music and the lights, it energized me, made me feel so much younger! That night shattered my view of things, especially the way I saw my life, I had a lot of free time...I discussed my idea with my grandson, he thought I'd gone mad."
2. JOHANNA QUAAS (86) - GYMNAST
Johanna Quaas spent most of her life focusing on her family. Once Quaas was in her 50's, she decided to pick up gymnastics for the first time since she was a child.
In 2012 she was named the World's Oldest Gymnast by the Guinness World Records.
Quaas credits her love for yoga, running, and having an overall healthy diet to her success. "I eat plenty of greens" she says.
3. WANG DESHUN (80) - MODEL
Most commonly referred to as, 'The Worlds Hottest Grandad,' Wang Deshun's modeling career took off just last year, at 79 years-old.
The Chinese model didn’t join a gym until his 50s, but when he did, he vowed to go everyday for at least 4 hours at a time.
But the real secret to his success wasn't his workout routine, it was his soul. "To enjoy good health and a sound body, first you must attend to your spirit, and the rest will follow" he says.
4. Baddie Winkle (88) - INSTAGRAM MODEL
Three years ago, Helen Ruth Elam Van Winkle aka Baddiewinkle became an Internet sensation at the age of 85 after her great granddaughter uploaded a picture of her on social media of her wearing her granddaughter's clothes. Soon after that initial photo went up, Baddie gained thousands of followers immediately, capturing the attention of many social media savvy millennials, including Rihanna and Miley Cyrus.
Today, Baddiewinkle has over 2.5 million followers on Instagram and is a vocal supporter of the nationwide legalization of medical marijuana. Aside from hardcore promoting weed and talking about how she wants to f**k Drake, she's now using her large social media platform to try and motivate others her age.
“When you get to a certain age, you do slow down. I know I’ve slowed down a lot because there’s things I can’t do anymore like cut down a tree. Believe me, I used to. My advice is to just get out and walk. Or do water aerobics. Too many older people don’t do anything even though they’re capable of it. They just think they’re too old. And that’s not right....Let young people influence you. I look at my grandchildren and say, ‘Okay, I want to be that way today."
In Conclusion, age is (clearly) nothing but a number. Go after it.
